Boschendal Off Road Duo & Trail Challenge 23 July – are you ready?

The Boschendal Off Road Duo & Trail Challenge, mountain bike & trail run multisport event is 3 weeks away. The question is, with 3 weeks left, what can still be done to get sharp for this race? July 23rd is nearing fast. BTW, entries are also going at a fast pace!

We’ll reason that this is an off-season event for you, so best is to approach it as a fun but perhaps flat-out event should all cylinders fire on the day. If you are an OCD athlete that stays fit no matter what, all you need to consider is your MTB and trail running ability. If you have been on the couch to escape the winter cold, this event is perfectly timed for you to regain some mid-winter fitness.

For the bike leg, find a mountain bike route 25-30 Km in distance, with 600-800m elevation, mostly single track, and go flat-out. Not the sweepy, pine-needle type that kids on pink bikes can do. Get the real rocky, hair-pin, “don’t know what comes up next” MTB type. Boschendal will test you, but fun it will be.

For the run, get yourself a 10 km trail course with the same characteristics, add 300m elevation, and push your heart rate mostly into zone 4 or 5. As long as you tick over with other daily training of sorts, 5 of those per discipline till race day should allow you a great race. You would still be able to smile afterwards.

It’s going to be a fun day, so bring the whole family. Boschendal offers a lot.

And let’s not forget, there are various  trail runs only for hard core trail runners as well.
